Better Off Gone

This old town, it knows exactly where we’ve been
Street corner reminders of all our conquests and our sins
Now, the storefronts, they all sit empty and decayed
While our memories, they rest here just the same
Because these streets are filled with ghosts best left alone
You know I think we’d be better off gone
Let these wheels turn, the horizon will be our home
You know I think we’d be better off gone
Streetlights all busted, they got us living in the dark
I know there’s a light out there, we just gotta find the spark
And there’s no future when we’re dwelling on the past
There’s a whole world’s out there, let’s go and make our path
These streets are filled with ghosts best left alone
You know I think we’d be better off gone
Let these wheels turn, the horizon will be our home
Yeah, I think we’d be better off gone
Better off gone from these streets that hold the memories
Of everyone who left before, left us all behind
These streets where our dreams crashed and burned
Lessons we had to learn to make it out alive
These streets are filled with ghosts best left alone
You know I think we’d be better off gone
Let these wheels turn, the horizon will be our home
Yeah, I think we’d be better off gone

Out the Door

This is driving me crazy ‘cause I know that something’s off
What’s up with you lately? I can’t put my finger on it
This ain’t gonna break me, this is how I live my life
Not the girl that you lied to, and you only get one strike
Well, I’m listening now, you’re gonna say it outloud
Don’t do me no favors by hanging around
Just tell me it’s over, don’t want to do this back and forth
When this ain’t no fun for us no more
Yeah, I’ll go
Just watch me go
Yeah, watch me walk right out the door
Because I’m good at go
Just watch me go
You should know this about me
I can flip my emotions like a switch
Wasn’t stopping you baby
If you need to scratch that itch
Don’t take me the wrong way
I liked having you around
but you take me for stupid
and I’m half way out of town
Smart girl’s always got her bags packed and ready
Yeah, it’s better to leave than to get left
I’m just telling you now that you ain’t gonna stop me
Because I’m only looking out for myself
like my grandma taught me
Yeah, I’ll go
Just watch me go
Yeah, watch me walk right out the door
Because I’m good at go
Just watch me go

Crystal Beach

They're paving all the dirt roads, but they left this one alone
My trailer's at the dead end, but it's no place to call home
Shrimp boats and oil fields, the only jobs still around
When tourists all pack up and forget this little town
The winter months bring boredom until the sun shines again
I'm cooking up distraction until the payday ends
Yeah, it's just another small town
Where the edges get so hard to reach
I'm wasting away all my best years
Just living out here on this Crystal Beach
Cough syrup and matchbooks, coffee filters, starter spray
It takes a special kind of poison to survive this day to day
At the end of my dirt road, the heat never gets too high
The sheriff has bigger problems like that run off this July
And mama keeps the children, you know they want or need
She just hides behind her bible to block the things she shouldn't see
Yeah, it's just another small town
Where the edges get so hard to reach
I'm wasting away all my best years
Just living out here on this Crystal Beach
When a man gets greedy, that's when it all goes wrong
A zig when you should zag, one spark and it's all gone
The flames lit the night sky, if there was maker, we would've met
Ma just told the children that I fell asleep with a cigarette
Yeah, it's just another small town
Where the edges get so hard to reach
I'm wasting away all my best years
Just living out here on this Crystal Beach

Edge of the World

This beach has never felt like home
My dreams have never landed here and my heart, it wants to roam
Nothing but loneliness remains in this town that I’ve outgrown
I think it’s time that I move
Well, I’m standing here at the edge of the world
Waves crashing down on my feet
Screaming curses into the warm summer breeze
Wondering if I’ll ever feel free
Night sweats in the salt air
Got me searching through the darkness for a peace that’s never there
Trying to find an exit while I’ve got the mind to care
You know fate’s never worried over fair
Well, I’m standing here at the edge of the world
Waves crashing down on my feet
Screaming curses into the warm summer breeze
Wondering if I’ll ever feel free
These summer winds call me to go
Pack up all I hold dear and just move on down the road
Try to find some joy in all the dreams I’ll follow
Find a new place to call home
Well, I’m standing here at the edge of the world
Waves crashing down on my feet
Screaming curses into the warm summer breeze
Wondering if I’ll ever feel free
Will I ever learn to feel free?
Does anyone ever feel free?
